Conveyor Arts is pleased to announce Based on a True Story, a group show and bi-coastal collaboration between seven artists from San Francisco and New York. Join us for the opening party on Saturday, June 4th from 7 to 10 PM at Conveyor Arts exhibition space, located at 117 Grand Street in Hoboken, NJ.
Based on a True Story includes photography, installation and artist books that explore the notion of fear and romanticism in the universe. The participating artists work from a range of inspiration including well-known imagery of the universe from the Hubble Telescope, vernacular moments that speak to one’s delicate position in the expansive universe and the altering of camera optics to create the sense that one could create their very own universe by altering the sense of vision.
Based on a True Story is rooted in the notion that somewhere between fear and romanticism all rational thought is held and subjected. And the truth, whatever it may be, is conditioned by our relative position and our “rational” thought, which is constantly and consistently subject to romanticism.
One could say that all romantic thought stems from our relationship with the universe.
Statement for Deep Space
Time and space are something I have given up hope on understanding. It is not that I have not tried. But my efforts have not been fruitful, for months, I worked on re-conceptualizing space though the craft of a latch-hook rug. I patterned Deep Space, fashioned it into my grandmother’s kitsch and felt space, the whole of time, wrinkle between my toes.
